Lulan Artisans/Architecture for Humanity Partnership

Economic development by creating stable livelihoods and infrastructure for our artisan partners, their families and their communities is central to Lulan Artisans mission. Each artisan group acts as an affiliate business enterprise.

Lulan has partnered with Architecture for Humanity to build progressive, next-generation weaving centers for artisan cooperatives in Southeast Asia. As our partner, Architecture for Humanity will provide architectural and design solutions, development and construction expertise to communities in need.

We will use local materials and architects to build inventive, replicable weaving centers and train the community to develop these into thriving facilities. Each building design will be shared through Creative Commons licensing so more communities can benefit.

The leads on this project, Eve Blossom and Cameron Sinclair, have long shared a common bond. Both entered architecture with a vision to use design as a vehicle to create social and economic change. Both left promising design careers to pursue their dream to make a social difference globally.

Collectively, these two initiatives are using power of design to change lives and build a more sustainable future for tens of thousands of families. By marrying the micro-enterprise textile business model of Lulan Artisans with the innovative open source model of Architecture for Humanity, we believe that we can create a truly successful model of hybrid of ‘doing well by doing good'.
